When a standard starter can’t start your engine, HEXASTART offers three solutions: spring starters, air starters and high-torque electric starters. Choose by your starting conditions, or send us your engine details and we will recommend one.

Spring Starters
A mechanical starter that stores energy by hand-winding an internal stack of disc springs. Pushing the trip lever releases the stored energy through the starter pinion to the flywheel ring gear, cranking the engine. No battery, compressed air or electrical supply is needed, and no electrical sparks are produced during starting.

Air Starters
A three-stage turbine design powered by compressed air starts diesel engines of up to 250 L displacement. No electrical sparks are produced. The modular housing can be rotated through 360° to ease installation, suiting oil & gas and mining sites.

High-Torque Electric Starters
High-torque electric starters for large-displacement diesel engines. On large engines, a single starter can replace a traditional dual-starter configuration, simplifying the starting system. Starters can be developed to match specific engine models, mounting geometries and operating requirements.
Compare at a glance
Compare the three starter types by starting energy, engine size and site conditions.
| Spring Starter | Air Starter | High-Torque Electric Starter | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting energy | Spring energy (hand-wound) | Compressed air | Electric power (battery or mains) |
| Engine displacement | Up to 50 L | Up to 250 L | Large-displacement engines |
| Needs batteries or mains power | No | No | Yes |
| Needs compressed air | No | Yes | No |
| Typical use | Emergency generator sets, fire pumps, hydraulic power packs, mobile power stations | Oil & gas and petrochemical, mining and heavy equipment | Large generator sets for data centers and similar critical facilities |
